Spelling and word knowledge are key components in the process of learning to read and write. Spelling Shed makes the acquisition of these key skills fun and engaging for students and easy for teachers to implement. Our approach follows the Science of Reading and we provide spelling words lists for K-5.
Spelling Shed is used by millions of students worldwide.
We provide 30+ weekly word lists for each grade level (K-5) that are based on the Science of Reading research, align with current ELA standards, and follow a systematic progression. We also provide extended learning lists for enrichment, review lists that incorporate previously taught concepts, and integrate high-frequency words to build automaticity and improve word recognition skills. With built-in scaffolding and support, our games allow children to practice word lists at a level that fits their needs. We also provide progress monitoring with the ability to track students’ weekly assignments, assess development on specific skills, monitor activities, and more.
Phonics Shed is a complete, explicit and systematic phonics program that aligns with the Science of Reading. The program covers sound awareness in pre-school and leads into a core phonics curriculum that integrates into Spelling Shed’s complementary SOR spelling system.
The narrative-driven Phonics Shed curriculum is aligned with the Science of Reading and has in-depth daily lesson plans, original stories and songs, decodables, online games, flashcards, and other resources that cover vital pre-reading speaking and listening skills and over 110 GPCs (Grapheme-Phoneme Correspondences) that span grades K-3. Each GPC covered is represented with a specific character and has its own lesson and activities for that specific GPC.
Mental math and mathematical fact knowledge are key components in the process of achieving math fluency. MathShed makes the acquisition of these key skills fun and engaging for students and easy to plan for teachers.
Math fluency is the automatic recall of basic math facts. When students develop this level of automaticity with basic math facts they have attained a level of mastery that enables them to recall these facts with little effort on their part, allowing them to access tasks requiring more complex mathematical reasoning with greater ease and success.
Students develop math fluency with our variety of engaging games. Skill areas include multiplication facts, number bonds, powers of ten, and addition and substitution.
MathShed also provides data that shows the students' fluency progress with each specific math skill. In addition, teachers are able to view students progress with weekly assignments, level of difficulty that the student has been working at and a history of game plays.
QuizShed is a FREE resource that helps students learn through fun, quick-fire quizzes. Flexible and easy to use, it can be used in the classroom or remotely, with individuals or groups, as a starter activity or as a consolidation task.
